17 Sources of Quality Men’s Dress Shirts: Made in USA

Once I started researching Made in USA products, I found that there were multiple sources of beautiful, American-made dress shirts.

Personally, I love matching a good-looking dress shirt with a great pair of jeans and work boots. Looking at the shirts below, I wish I could buy a wardrobe’s-worth today and ditch the remaining foreign-made shirts in my closet. However, I’m slowly replacing my old wardrobe with new American made items.

Whether you like solids, or prints, traditional white or bold colors, check out the offerings from some American manufacturers:

gitmanshirtsGitman Brothers shirts have been in production since the 1930s. The company has a large selection and considers themselves the “foremost manufacturer of shirts and ties in the USA.” Gitman dress shirts are sold at Nordstrom, at Orvis, at Patrick James, sometimes at  Sierra Trading Post (great deals on close-outs) and on the Gitman site.
BladeandblueBlade & Blue makes all of its clothes, including a line of shirts, in San Francisco.

talbottRobert Talbott began as a cottage industry in Carmel, California. Today, some of its shirts are American; some are imported. The American shirts are sold at Nordstrom (the ones that appear first are the USA-Made shirts), at  Rochester Big & Tall, and at the company site. Unfortunately, the new design of the Robert Talbott site prevents you from searching out the Made-in-USA shirts at all and it’s a pain to wade through the whole collection.

Mizzen and Main Shirts

Mizzen and Main got its start after the founder watched a businessman sweat through his shirt in a meeting. And then… the idea for a moisture wicking dress shirt was born.

Todd Shelton Shirts

Todd Shelton has been quoted as saying that design without manufacturing is simply marketing. He backed up those words by building a New Jersey factory where all of the company’s garments are produced.

Hamilton Shirts has been making shirts in Houston for more than a century, and still oversee every aspect of production.

Hucklebury Shirts

Hucklebury Shirts completed a successful Kickstarter campaign and is now offering a full line of shirts, which are made in the USA of Egyptian cotton.

White Dress Shirt Company

The White Dress Shirt Company is now dipping it’s toes into plaid, but its primary offerings are just what the name says.

O’Connell’s Clothing

O’Connell’s Clothing has its own line of American-made shirts and carries old-new stock of vintage Sero shirts.

Blackland Clothing Co. Shirts

Clay Rayborn, owner of Blackland Clothing, says he isn’t interested in producing “fashion week” clothes. He started his business to produce the kind of sturdy but comfortable items he remembers the men wearing on his family’s farm.

Mercer and Sons

Located in Yarmouth, ME, Mercer and Sons jumped into the shirt making business after watching “the primary maker of traditional button downs shirts cheapen(ing) its product.”

Jack Robie

Jack Robie shirts are made in the USA of Japanese cotton. The profits from two of their designs, the Jack Robie “Luke” Chambray and the Jack Robie “Luke” Chambray Button-Down and the shirt, go entirely to Paul Newman’s camp for kids with cancer, the Hole in the Wall Gang.
