I keep finding cool, American-made bags and backpacks online. The only problem is that each design has something I really like and it keeps me from making the all-important decision: which should I buy?
Disclosure: We’ll get a small commission if you buy through the links in this post: Please do!My latest discovery is Triple Aught Design, a California-based firm that designs gear for the adventurist. According to their website, the name Triple Aught Design comes a unit of measurement: “Engineers and machinists use 000 (triple aught) as shorthand for a thousandth of an inch, which has been the high standard of precision tolerance for over a century.”The Azimuth pack, above, is made with weather-resistant material, has 33 liters of storage and can pack in its own pocket. The Fast Pack Litespeed, left, holds 22 liters and the Azimuth Packable Backpack on the right holds 19 liters.
Another thing I like about the company is their transparency about which products use domestic or imported fabric.
Today, we’d like to celebrate an American family firm that has passed an important milestone: 100 years in business!

This time, we decided to look a little further into this fourth-generation family business that started a century ago in Cincinnati. From the stylish Dunbar valet tray above to the Garfield Bomber Bag shown at the top of the post, the range of leather goods offered by the company is impressive and the prices are relatively affordable compared to other high-end leather goods.
I pride myself on traveling light and I would love to see just how many days worth of gear I could pack into the beautifully-styled Lux Twain Weekender. The Twain is lined with a 6.4 oz. twill pattern fabric and features brass hardware. If a full leather bag is not your thing, you can always opt for the waxed canvas/leather combo offered on the Sawyer Briefcase.
Please shop carefully as not all Korchmar items are made in America. The link at the beginning of the post will bring you to items that are.

Every time I come across the name Goruck, I envision slogging my way through a tough wooded area or climbing challenging hills. There is a reason for that: Goruck sponsors many outdoor challenge events based on special forces training. In fact, the products we’re showcasing today were developed by an ex-Special Forces soldier who knows a thing or two about being in the wilderness and needing gear that is tough and can hold up to the rigors of the elements.

The company offers a variety of sizes, most of which are TSA-compliant for overhead storage. The bags have enough storage for a solid weekend away, plenty of compartments for your valuables and a durable outer shell made from 1000 denier CORDURA.Let’s just say that these are some really great heavy duty bags built to carry your stuff and last a lifetime (Puppy is optional).Happy Rucking!
I really enjoy the outdoors, especially during the Fall. I can”t wait for the temperature to drop just a bit so I can break out my heavier clothing. When I saw the items from Tom Beckbe I knew I wanted to bring them to your attention. The product line is geared towards hunters, but these garments and bags have a very multi-purpose feel to them. The Tensaw jacket features a waxed shelter cloth shell, a corduroy-lined collar for warmth and – really nice touch – a cotton twill lining dyed in Alabama red clay. Not terribly cold out but you need a little protection and some storage pockets? The Kinsman vest has you covered.Looking for a durable duffle to carry your gear? Check out the Canvas Weekender. The bag is made from waxed army duck canvas and features Horween leather trim. It is also has a waterproof liner. If waxed canvas isn’t your thing, you can opt for this beautiful Horween leather Weekender bag that will patina beautifully with age.
We’re always on the lookout for good deals on USA-Made products, which helps to offset the higher price of American labor. How about you?Disclosure: We’ll get a small commission if you buy through the links in this post. Please do!
